The most visited winery in Canada! There are three features that define this winery: it’s organic, their specialty is sparkling wine and everything is aged in a four-storey concrete replica of an Egyptian pyramid. It is believed that the structure’s “sacred geometry” enhances everything produced at Summerhill Pyramid Winery. Come find out for yourself! (featured on our Kelowna Wine Tour)
Come visit the Winery that has been recognized twice as Canada’s winery of the year in 2002 and 2005! Cedar Creek Estate Winery is set atop a hillside overlooking Okanagan Lake and is surrounded by 50 acres of vineyard and immaculately kept gardens. Family owned and operated, the Fitzpatrick’s are dedicated to growing, producing and selling 100% premium BC wine. Simply stated Cedar Creek’s winemaking philosophy is “respect the land, honor tradition, and pursue perfection.” (featured on our Kelowna Wine Tour)
Come and experience this intimate family-run winery with a rich history that includes losing all their production facilities in the wildfires of 2003. The founding of the Winery in 1992 has allowed the Gebert Family from Switzerland to translate their love of vines into the pleasure of their award -winning natural dry wines. (featured on our Kelowna Wine Tour)
One of the largest and fastest growing wineries in Canada! A family-owned winery known for producing distinctive, internationally acclaimed wines in a dramatic setting that celebrates wine, food and the arts. With a timelessness that respects the family’s European heritage, guests experience a quiet serenity in an elegant, yet contemporary setting overlooking Lake Okanagan. (often featured on our Westside Wine Tour)
Voted ‘ British Columbia’s Winery of the Year’ in 2004 by Wine Press Northwest! Quails’ Gate is owned and operated by the Stewart Family who strive to be one of the premium Pinot Noir and Chardonnay producers in Canada. Come and experience this family-run winery with a rich history that includes a carefully restored log cabin which was built in 1873 and is the first permanent structure on the Westside of Lake Okanagan. (usually featured on our Westside Wine Tour)
At Mt. Boucherie Estate Winery they believe in quality, family and tradition. All of their wines are carefully crafted from only the finest British Columbian Estate grown grapes and proudly bear the VQA seal of quality. A true family-owned and operated affair, their aim is to produce the finest white wines, red wines, and desert wines for every palate. (often featured on our Westside Wine Tour)
Come and visit the winery that pioneered classical sparkling wine production in British Columbia and was the first winery to introduce Meritage wines (premium blended wines using traditional Bordeaux grape varieties) to Canada. Sumac Ridge produces sparkling wine in the traditional Champagne method and ages the wines in a cellar that has been blasted into the rock below the winery. The winery produces a wide range of products with signature wines including Gewürztraminer, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. (featured on our Signature Wine Tour)
Dedicated to the passion of winemaking. Come and visit Thornhaven’s intimate, charming winery. Elevated on the slopes of Little Giants Head Mountain, a rocky, pine-covered crest, Thornhaven is fronted by its flourishing vineyards and cloaked in its quiet surroundings. The spectacular views from the courtyard patio overlook the picturesque landscape of Summerland’s orchard-laden valley floor and distant rolling mountains. Perfectly designed for wine making, the winery’s unique structure allows gravity to transport the fruit juice from the crush pad to the cellar, eliminating the effects of pumping. (featured on our Signature Wine Tour)
“During the gold rush era, our town’s laundry seemed innocent enough. Little did anyone know of the naughty business that went on behind the scenes.Perhaps it is best that we keep this little known part of Summerland history hush-hush.” Dirty Laundry Vineyard is a small family owned winery in Summerland, located high above the original townsite, on a plateau that enjoys an ideal microclimate and excellent sun exposure for growing exceptional grapes. Thanks to the vision of the vineyard’s founders, Dirty Laundry Vineyard has some of the oldest vines in the Okanagan Valley. Visitors often have a chance to see the formidable Kettle Valley Steam Train pass by alongside the vineyard during the tourist season. (featured on our Signature Wine Tour)
The first vines at Greata Ranch were planted in 1996 and the first harvest in the fall of 1998. Since that time Greata Ranch Vineyards has produced high quality grapes that have been showcased in many CedarCreek wines. In the spring of 2003 the first of the Greata Ranch wines were released under their own label and sold from the Greata location. The Verandah is breathtaking with it’s amazing view of lush vineyards, mountains and the sparkling Lake Okanagan. (usually featured on our Signature Wine Tour)
A family-owned winery established in 1996. Winemaker, Peter Slamka, is known for his exceptional Pinot Noirs and for producing the only Auxerrois Icewine in Canada. The majority of grapes used come from Little Straw’s own vineyards situated on the lower slopes of Mount Boucherie near Kelowna, British Columbia. We produce a complete range of wines with something to suit most every taste.
Each winery has its own schedule of events that change frequently. We do not like to bring our clients to a winery that is crowded or understaffed. The last thing that our clients want to see at a winery is a long line of tour buses, so we reserve the right to change it up at the last minute to ensure that your Okanagan wine experience is the best that it can be. Many people book a particular tour because they want to see a particular winery that they may have heard of. Please let us know when you book your tour and we’ll do our very best to get you to that special place.
We take Wine Tour bookings as far in advance as our customers would like to book, so as a consequence, we sell out the odd day far in advance. For that reason we recommend booking your tour as soon as you know which day you’d like to go. Keep in mind that you can cancel your tour (unless its a private group tour) until 7 days in advance without penalty.
Yes, but we may need to make special arrangements that may include an additional charge. We can also pick you up at a central location in Kelowna (perhaps a major hotel, or park) but we’ll make you promise not to drive if you’ve been tasting and feel the effects of alcohol. Please contact us and let us know where you’ll be so that we can make a plan. 🙂
Our tour pick-up and drop-off schedules vary depending upon the specific tour and the time of year. Please do not make definite plans for immediately after your tour. Sometimes the tours go a little late or the traffic might be heavy. Customized and private group wine tours will operate on any schedule. Please call us for details.
You’re not alone, but be careful because we are guilty of converting some of the most die-hard wine skeptics! Once you see how the grapes are grown, harvested and lovingly crafted into the finest wines, you may not be able to resist a tasting that will convince you why so many people enjoy Okanagan wines. Its so much more than just a beverage … its an experience that’s different for everyone. You don’t actually have to taste the wine though to experience the beauty and hospitality of our local wineries. All have very quaint shops, and most have spectacular views of the Okanagan Valley. Furthermore, your guide will endeavor to point out many attractions as you travel around the valley, that don’t necessarily have anything to do with wine. Many feel that their wine tour doubled as something of an Okanagan orientation.
Icewine is common in the Okanagan Valley due to our favorable climate, and most wineries produce or sell some kind of Icewine. Since it takes over 30 pounds of grapes to produce a single bottle, it is understandably expensive, so there is often a small fee associated with tasting Icewine. (normally $2 to $5, and well worth it in our opinion!) A couple of our tours include a free Icewine tasting. Contact us for more details!
Of course you can drive yourself around to as many wineries as you’d like and probably have a great time. By booking a tour though, you’ll enhance your experience in many ways. The most obvious is the fact that you can freely sample as much wine as you’d like without worrying about driving. Safety first, and the fact that a driving suspension will put a serious damper on your holiday. (Ask our honourable Premier about that!) Also, as experts on the local wineries, we select specific wineries that complement one another to round out the experience. We try to pair large facilities with much smaller ones, so that our guests can see a meaningful cross-section of the industry. We also try to select wineries that show you a variety of Okanagan wines. Some red, some white and usually some Ice-wine too! Our tours also double as somewhat of an Okanagan Valley tour that provides interesting information on the Valley in general. Finally, save yourself from researching which facility tours are best, when they run, when they are over-run and so on!
Many of our clients who have taken our tour on their last day in the valley, wish that they’d done their tour earlier. Beyond visiting a selection of fabulous wineries, our tours give you somewhat of an orientation of the area. People often DISCOVER new places on our tours that they’d like to return to. For that reason, we recommend doing a wine tour near the beginning of your stay in the Valley.
Tipping is not expected at Discover Okanagan Tours, but is customary at any service organization in North America. If your guide showed you a relaxing, informative and entertaining day, made you feel safe and comfortable while on the road, AND in any way exceeded your expections, then we recommend a tip of about $20 Cdn. Historically, tips range between $20 and $100 per group. Depending on your guide, a bottle of wine is a nice gratuity too. They’ve been salivating all day long while you’ve been tasting, smelling and admiring wines! 🙂
